Packaged snacks. Ready for the journey.

A planning guide for commercially packaged biscuits, confectionery and dry snacks moving from China to US distribution.

Sealed dry food packaging

Review ingredients before the freight booking

Different snacks may share an outer carton format while needing very different import review. Include fillings, seasoning and animal-derived ingredients in the product information. The final ingredient list should match the label and the product supplied.

The relevant importer and regulatory adviser should resolve product eligibility. Do not rely on another shipper’s successful delivery as proof that a different formula, manufacturer or origin is acceptable.

Protect the retail pack and the carton

  • Keep pouches and trays sealed; check seams and closures before packing.
  • Use dividers or cushioning where biscuits or brittle products can be crushed.
  • Agree stack height and carton strength for consolidation handling.
  • Identify fragile, heat-sensitive or moisture-sensitive products separately.

Share photographs of a retail pack, a full carton and the proposed pallet. This makes it easier to discuss handling, space and whether the cargo can tolerate the planned consolidation.

Build a practical shelf-life budget

Record production date, expiry or best-before date where used, and the buyer’s minimum shelf life at receipt. Include origin waiting time and warehouse receiving time in the plan, not only the days at sea.

Confectionery containing chocolate or other heat-sensitive ingredients needs particular attention to storage conditions. A dry container does not provide a guaranteed temperature environment. If the required conditions cannot be maintained, the ordinary route is unsuitable.
