Plan this shipmentStart with the finished product
“Health product” is a broad commercial description. For shipment planning, identify the actual product: capsules, tablets, softgels, gummies, powder or another form. Record the full formula, manufacturer, retail label and intended use. These details help your importer and adviser establish the relevant product category.
Do not assume that a product sold as a supplement in China has the same classification in the United States. Formulation and marketing claims can change the questions that need to be resolved before freight is arranged.
Different formats, different handling
| Format | Freight questions |
|---|---|
| Capsules & tablets | Bottle seals, carton strength, humidity sensitivity and manufacturer storage instructions. |
| Gummies & softgels | Heat sensitivity, sticking or deformation risk, closure integrity and transport conditions. |
| Powders | Moisture barrier, lid and pouch seals, dust leakage and carton compression. |
| Liquids | Leak protection, secondary containment, glass breakage and ingredient-specific review. |
The packaging plan should protect both the retail container and the outer carton. Pallet stability, stack height and any “do not stack” instruction affect handling and the space charged. Share those requirements with the freight team before dimensions are finalised.

Direct ocean service
Count from vessel departure to arrival at the US port. Cargo preparation, import clearance and delivery to your warehouse take additional time.
Shipping in peak season? Allow an extra 5–7 days. Ask us for the current sailing and warehouse delivery estimate.
Labels and importer arrangements
Keep a complete label file with the shipment brief. FDA’s dietary supplement labeling guide describes required label information, including product identity, net quantity, nutrition information, ingredients and business identification. Your qualified adviser should check the applicable requirements for the finished product.
Confirm who will take responsibility for the US import. The customs importer, the FSVP importer where applicable, the facility’s US agent and the delivery warehouse have different roles. A freight booking should not leave these identities unresolved.
Review supplement label preparationCheck ingredients before market entry
Ask your product adviser whether any ingredient requires a New Dietary Ingredient notification. A compliant label alone does not resolve ingredient eligibility. Any applicable notification and safety information must be addressed before the product is marketed in the United States.
Plan around shelf life and replenishment
Work backwards from the date inventory must be available to sell. Allow time for origin readiness, the proposed vessel schedule, US release and warehouse receiving. Keep a reserve for events that cannot be fixed by the sailing date alone.
If your manufacturer specifies a narrow temperature range, first check the whole transport chain. Standard dry-container ocean freight is not a controlled-temperature service. Shelf-life budgeting and temperature requirements should be agreed before choosing between LCL, FCL or a different transport option.

Questions about this shipment
Are dietary supplements subject to the same FSVP rules as every food?
There are specific modified requirements for certain dietary supplement situations. Your importer should confirm which requirements apply rather than assuming a blanket exemption.
Can you guarantee customs or FDA release?
No. Release depends on the product, documentation and decisions by the relevant authorities. The shipment plan should account for possible holds and associated costs.
